Welcome to �鶹��ý Inspire 2035, �鶹��ý (�鶹��ý)'s roadmap for the future.

This webpage represents the culmination of a yearlong, campus wide effort to define who we are, what we value, and where we aspire to go as a college. Building on the South Orange County Community College District's ten-month strategic planning process, members of our college community engaged in meaningful dialogue through shared governance councils, committees, town halls, and campus conversations to shape the priorities, goals, values, vision, and mission that will guide �鶹��ý through 2035.

The result is a strategic framework grounded in the collective voices, expertise, and aspirations of our students, employees, and community partners. Together, we established six institutional priorities and twelve college-wide goals, affirmed a shared set of institutional values, and developed a new vision and mission that reflect our commitment to student success, equity, innovation, belonging, and community impact.

At the heart of Inspire 2035 is a simple but powerful understanding:

Our Mission explains why we exist.

Together, these statements provide a shared foundation for decision making, planning, and continuous improvement across the college. They challenge us to align our daily work with our highest aspirations while remaining responsive to the evolving needs of our students and community.

Inspire 2035 is more than a plan. It is a commitment to building a student centered, future ready college that embodies excellence in education, cultivates care and belonging, inspires innovation, and advances equitable opportunities for all.

I invite you to explore the goals, priorities, values, vision, mission, and supporting plans that will guide our work in the years ahead. Strategic Plan: 2020-2025

Goal 1: Ensure equity in access and achievement

1.1 Decrease and eliminate institutional barriers to ensure equitable educational outcomes for minoritized students i.e. Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native American. (VFS)
1.2 Reduce and eliminate equity gaps for completion rates in transfer-level math and English. (VFS)
1.3 Reduce and eliminate equity gaps between online and in-person classes
1.4 Increase equity of access into college
1.5 Reduce and eliminate student Fall to Spring and Fall to Fall retention equity gaps
1.6 Cultivate a culturally responsive and inclusive learning and working environment free from explicit/implicit bias

Goal 2: Transform lives through learning and achievement

2.1 Increase the number of students annually who earn associate degrees, certificates, or 9 units in CE programs that prepare them for an in-demand job (VFS)

2.3 Increase course success in online and in-person classes
2.4 Increase course success in online and traditional classroom classes
2.5 Increase spring to spring and fall to fall retention
2.6 Increase the percent of exiting career education students who report being employed in their field of study (VFS)
2.7 Reduce average units accumulated by students who complete degrees (VFS)
2.8 Increase and support educational programs and student services for adult learners 25 years and older
2.9 Increase and support the number of outside classroom learning opportunities available for students in each school (and participation in those opportunities)
2.10 Increase and support inter-disciplinary learning opportunities both within and across the colleges
2.11 Increase and support the number of professional development opportunities for faculty and staff

Goal 3: Engage with community through athletic and cultural events, enrichment programs, and in creating economic prosperity for all

3.1 Strengthen and expand industry engagement to support student learning, program development, and regional economic development
3.2 Increase the number of students who report obtaining a job closely related to their field of study that strongly support the regional economy (VFS)
3.3 Increase participation in extended learning (community and adult education programs, and emeritus institutes)
3.4 Increase the number of students who earn college credits while still in high school
3.5 Increase partnerships with higher education institutions
3.6 Increase community participation in civic, athletic, and cultural events
3.7 Increase visibility in the community as a leader on equity, inclusion, and issues central to the health and well-being of the community

4.1 Develop and improve institutional policies, practices, and processes pertaining to facilities, technology, and sustainability
4.2 Develop an organizational culture of collaboration across the district and with district offices

The Youth Empowerment Strategies for Success – Independent Living Program (YESS-ILP) is a supportive and empowering program designed specifically for current and former foster youth at �鶹��ý. The goal of the program is to equip students with the tools to navigate college life, build independence, and achieve personal and academic success.

Work Experience Education (WEE) is an academic program offering students the opportunity to earn units of credit while learning on-the-job, whether paid or unpaid. WEE is a student-centered, educational value-added academic course designed with specific, measurable learning outcomes pre-determined by student, employer, and the WEE instructor.

Gain Work Experience and Earn Transferable College Credit

Work Experience Education is offered as a credit course: One semester unit of credit will be awarded for every 54 hours of work experience. Applies to both paid and unpaid work experience. Students will earn up to 4 units of credit per semester.

Student Steps to Prepare for WEE

Identify WEE Internship

Identify companies hiring interns.
Create a Handshake account, to connect with employers and search for job and internship opportunities.
Contact the Office of Economic & Workforce Development to learn more about internships.

Identify and meet with WEE Instructor

Prior to enrolling in the course, schedule a meeting with a WEE instructor from your program of study. The instructor will provide an overview of WEE requirements, determine units of credit, develop student learning objectives, and establish timeline for employer site visits.
Complete WEE Student Learning Objectives form.
Employer completes the WEE Employer Agreement Form and Department of Labor (DOL) Fact Sheet #71 form.

Complete WEE Intake Form

Once you have completed steps 1 and 2, submit the WEE Intake Form.

Student will receive CRN and an Add Authorization Code (AAC) to enroll in the course from the department staff or instructor.

While placement is not guaranteed, there are resources available to assist you in seeking an internship.

�鶹��ý Economic & Workforce Development (EWD)
�鶹��ý fosters economic and workforce development through strategic partnerships with business, community-based organizations and educational networks. EWD is an integral component of �鶹��ý and committed to responding to the workforce needs within the Orange County region connecting students to employment and internship opportunities.

I am a Federal Work-Study student. Can I enroll in WEE to help meet my required college credits?

There are various program and government eligibility requirements. Verify with the Financial Aid office prior to WEE enrollment.

I am an international student. Can I enroll in WEE?

International students must meet additional federal requirements and program approvals. Inquire with the International Students program for more details and assistance.

Can I change my WEE credits after enrollment?

No, you are unable to make any changes to your WEE credits.

What happens if I do not meet my required hours worked for the semester?

It is strongly recommended that students enroll in the number of units of credit that will be positively achievable. If you are unable to meet the required WEE hours to successfully complete the course, contact your WEE instructor immediately.

What must I do if I need to drop the course?

Contact your WEE instructor immediately. If you decide to drop the course, it is your responsibility to initiate and complete the withdrawal procedure.

Can I earn academic credit for an in-person internship located out of state?

No. We cannot accommodate academic credit for an in-person internship that is located outside of California.

Can I earn academic credit for an internship with an employer located out of the country?

No. We cannot accommodate academic credit for any internships where the employer is located out of the country.
